A woman in the United States has failed her driving test after she went through a stop sign and hit a four-wheel-drive during the test.

The woman, from Maine, was attempting to have her licence reinstated when the accident happened.

Police say the woman, her driving examiner and the driver of the 4WD were unhurt in the accident, but thousands of dollars worth of damage was done to the vehicles and one of them had to be towed from the scene.
